The GPOA has three basic fundraising campaigns that we focus on an annual basis. Some private citizens and businesses alike may receive phone calls from our fundraiser to obtain financial support for our annual programs. They are:
Gang Awareness Book:
This book is designed to educate parents and teachers in how to keep children from becoming interested in gangs as well as providing warning signs and behaviors of children involved in gangs.
Back to School" program.
Funds raised are donated to under-funded schools for special needs children in Guilford County to assist teachers in purchasing needed supplies. Proceeds are currently benefitting the students of McIver Education Center in Greensboro. Click here to view a the photo
Shop with a Cop
Every year we provide underprivaleged children and with money to Christmas Shop for themselves and their family. We usually sponser around 35 children a year. It is the only way these children have an opportunity to understand the true meaning of giving and of Christmas.

Promotional Process Proposal
President Wendy Raines compiled a comprehensive promotional process proposal and submitted it to Police Chief T.R. Bellamy for review. The purpose of the proposal is to provide Chief Bellamy with information to modify the current GPD Promotional Process to make it a fair, practical and widely adopted Promotional Process for Police Officers. Wendy obtained information from several sources such as Hickory PD., Indiana State Police, Police Chief Magazine, Los Angeles PD and more.

Update on Senator Snows 25-Year Retirement Bill July 27th 2007.
After Senator Snow had conducted his survey there was not enough support from officers for him to support the bill. Lack of support was due to the fact that officers under five years of service would not be eligible to draw the supplemental pay. The bill will not be brought back up until the spring session which will begin May 2008.
Please keep up the pressure to contact your State Congress/Senate Representatives. The pressure put on them is working and maybe a compromise can be found. The league of Municipalities still wants to take our supplemental plan for the 25 year retirement. Below is the formula to figure out what your supplemental is worth. You can only draw the supplemental pay until you reach age 62.
The GPOA will be working with Senator Snow's office to try and find a compromise that both parties can agree to.
This supplemental below is based on an officer who retires with his last four year average salary at $53,250.
Supplemental Pay: 30 year plan
53,250
X .0085
= 452 X 30 Years
= 13,578 Year
