A Message from President Summers |
Notes
from September 2, 2004 GPOA Meeting
Membership Drive – We have added an additional 10 members. We are now up to 357 members.
Our numbers are going up every month! Please continue to work hard on
getting more members. The more
members we have, the more we can do as a united force. If you need to get someone a
GPOA application, just go to our web site www.greensboropoa.org and click on
"Membership Application".
You can print one right off the web.www.greensboropoa.org. FLSA
Lawsuit –
Bill Hill has written a letter to the City Attorney defending the City
suggesting a settlement that would clarify the City in being liable for FLSA
malpractice, yet it would be financially beneficial for the City. The GPOA is not concerned about the award
from the lawsuit, just the ruling to correct improper labor practices. Building
– The
building our office is in, is currently up for sale by the owner. There are three potential buyers, however,
we do not know how this will affect our presence in the building. We will keep you posted. With
that in mind, we have been looking at some other commercial buildings that
are for sale and considering the option to purchase a building of our
own. Eddy has contacted a real estate
broker and is examining our options.
The purchase of a building would provide us an income opportunity in
leasing out office space. Shop
with a Cop 2004 – We have made plans to sponsor another Shop with a Cop program this
year. It will be at the Target Store
on Lawndale Drive on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 0830 hours. Make plans to attend this outreach
event. You will be moved by the joy
and hope you put in the hearts of kids and parents alike. PAC Fund – Developing a
PAC Fund was discussed again this month.
The need to develop a City Council member or a few of them that are
willing to support our Agenda as the GPOA is now becoming more and more
evident. We now have the attention of
the City Council and they now understand we are here to stay and we do have
an influence. We are one year away
from City Council elections, making this an excellent time to discuss our
issues with Council candidates If
they are willing to support our Agenda, then we will support their
campaign. If they are not with us,
then we will support their opponents who will support our efforts! We are now 357 strong and have the ear of
many people in our City. It is now
time to use that to our advantage.
Bond together and mold a City Council that will look after our needs
and the needs of the citizens. We
will be in touch with you soon about the PAC Fund. |
